Education

The undergraduate curriculum is designed to provide a deep and balanced understanding of interdisciplinary studies, with equal emphasis on mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry. Based on these foundational sciences, students are trained to apply engineering principles across various fields, including electrical and electronic engineering, materials science, biotechnology, medical imaging, therapeutic engineering, optics, microengineering, and nanoengineering.
Hands-on laboratory training is considered essential. Beginning in the first semester of the third year, all students participate in lab-based courses, gaining indirect research experience in faculty laboratories. Additionally, undergraduate research opportunities allow students to further develop both educational and research competencies, including the chance to publish SCI-level papers and strengthen their graduation qualifications.
To support this, the school is equipped with biology and biomaterials laboratories, electronics and optics labs, and provides access to faculty research equipment and facilities when necessary.
At the graduate level, students are affiliated with faculty research labs, where they receive specialized training in their advisor’s field, along with advanced education in core areas of biomedical engineering.

Research

While biomedical engineering encompasses a wide range of subfields, the School of Biomedical Engineering focuses particularly on key areas of future convergent medical technologies, including:

  • Biochips
  • Bioartificial organs
  • Nanobiomaterials
  • Bioimaging
  • Tissue engineering
  • Nanobiophotonics
  • Bioelectronics
Faculty members demonstrate outstanding research capabilities, publishing approximately 5 to 20 SCI-indexed papers per year as corresponding authors. Continuous efforts are being made to develop core foundational technologies that can lead global innovation.
The school is equipped with laboratories for cell biology, chemistry, optics, and bioelectronics, with plans to further expand both facilities and research space in the future.
